Peppara presents lush greenery along with abounded wildlife to the wildlife enthusiasts. Circumscribe with two important forests Palode Reserve and Kottoor Reserve Peppara occupies an area of 5.82 sq km alongside of Peppara Dam.
Situated on Thrivananthapuram-Ponmudi road, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is one among the major wildlife sanctuaries of Kerala. Peppara is about 50 km north-east of Thiruvananthapuram city.
The immense ecological importance of Peppara urged the officials to declare this area as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1983.
Kottur is located towards the east of Kerala’s capital city Thiruvananthapuram. Kottur is lying in the lap of the Agasthyakoodam hill range in the Western Ghats. This forest area of Kottur is part of the Agasthyavanam Biological Park.
Kottur forest region is a heaven for birds and other wild life. With a good forest cover, Kottur is marked by tall forest tree species and numerous rivulets and streams.
Visitors are allowed to proceed around 1.5 km beyond the forest check post, which will end at a watch tower. The view from the watch tower presents the peek to Thottumpara, Kathirumudi, Agasthyakoodam and Pandipathu.
Kottur forest area is also noted for its rich wealth of medicinal plants, some of which are rare in occurrence. It is observed that the growing conditions in Kottur forest area support the existence of a large variety of medicinal plants.
